Our Story

Serving Columbus and Surrounding Communities since the 1970s, our mission at Animal General Hospital is to help your pets live happier, healthier lives by providing exceptional quality medical and surgical care in a compassionate environment. 

What began as a vision for modern, state-of-the-art veterinary care has grown into a full-service veterinary hospital, boarding facility, and doggie day camp, serving Columbus and surrounding areas. 

Throughout our growth, we’ve remained committed to ensuring pets and their families receive individual attention and customized treatment plans in a comfortable, caring environment.

Dr.Anita Wheat

Dr. Anita Wheat

Veterinarian

Dr. Anita Wheat grew up in a small town in western Alabama, where she developed her love for animals while helping her father care for the family’s cows and chickens. From an early age, she knew she wanted to become a veterinarian and eventually discovered her passion for small animal care. She attended Auburn University, earning both her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Wheat enjoys spending time outdoors walking in the park with her dog, Smitty, or relaxing with a good book—especially from the Harry Potter series.

Dr. Samantha Special

Dr. Samantha Special

Veterinarian

Dr. Samantha Special was born in Columbus, GA, where she earned her undergraduate degree from Columbus State University. She went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee University. Since then, she has worked in a variety of settings, including general practice and urgent care. Dr. Special’s greatest passion in veterinary medicine is providing quality, compassionate care to every patient she treats.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Special enjoys reading and spending time with her dog and cat.
